Lucknow: With the inauguration of new building of the High Court, the Oudh Bar Association has reiterated its demand to enlarge the territorial jurisdiction.

“Earlier, it was said that the existing building did not have enough space to accommodate more work from other districts and that there was no court rooms to make the judges sit, but now as the new building has as many as 57 court rooms in comparison to 29 in the old building, the jurisdiction must be expanded forthwith, said OBA president HGS Pariahr.

Speaking at the inauguration function of the High Court building, Parihar appreciated the efforts of the CJ and the CM in completing the building. He said "the bench and the bar are two wheels of a chariot and one cannot move without other. The lawyers should not be guided by the baton of contempt and instead the bar should behave with the bar like a son”, said Parihar. He asked the judges to consult with the bar before taking up contempt proceeding against a lawyer.

Parihar also asked the CJI and the CJ to fulfill the vacancies in Allahabad high court as against sanctioned strength of 160 judges, there are presently only 71 judges. He also asked the CJI for transparency in the appointment of the judges in higher judiciary.

The president demanded from CM Akhilesh Yadav that as he granted funds for construction of marvelous chamber of judges, he must come forward to help the members of the bar by providing Rs 2 crore each year for advocates’ chambers. The CM, however, replied that the bar association may have a discussion on this some other day.
