Muslims in favour of triple talaq; govt interference not needed: AIMPLB

Lucknow: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) said government's interference will not be tolerated in matters related to Sharia. It said that religious freedom is the constitutional right of Muslims as in other communities of this country.

"We will not allow government to get into our religious matters. Just like other communities, Muslims also have the constitutional right of religious freedom," said AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Syed Mohammad Wali Rahmani in the first session of the two-day meeting of the Board held at Lucknow's Nadwa College here on Saturday.

"Those who give triple talaq without reasons prescribed by the Sharia (reigious law) will face social boycott," he added. It said that they will issue a code of conduct to clear the misunderstanding.

The board also urged that there should be no obstruction in the way of implementing the personal law.

Maulana Rahmani said that it is a serious matter that there are discussions taking place regarding the authenticity and usefulness of the laws related to personal law.

"Seeing the same, it becomes our core responsibility of holding the Sharia in front of everyone. This responsibility increases even more in today's environment," said Mohammad Wali Rahmani.

Rahmani said board had launched a signature campaign and in the whole country, the signatures of 4 crore 43 lakh 47 thousand 596 Muslims were received in support of the Muslim Personal Law Board, out of which, two crore 73 lakh 86 thousand 934 were signed by Muslim women.

The memorandum of signatures has been given to the Chairman of the Law Commission of India, Dalbir Singh Chauhan.

Maulana said that this signature campaign has once again made it clear that the Constitution of India gives freedom to all the citizens of this country to implement their religious affairs.

"Muslim men and women do not want to make any changes in the Sharia laws," he said.

The meeting was attended by the President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi and AIMPLB members Maulana Wali Rehman, Saif al-Rahmani and Maulana Rabe Hasan Nadvi.
