Lucknow: Lathicharge on 2015 UP Police Constable aspirants

Lucknow: The UP Police Constable Recruitment-2015 candidates were beaten with batons by police on Tuesday as they gathered near the All India Radio office in Lucknow, seeking swiftness in the recruitment process.

The nearby roads suffered huge traffic jams due to the protest staged by the candidates. The cops had to lathicharge which created a stampede there. Police has also taken a few candidates under custody, said the sources.

After a fruitless meeting with the Principal Secretary, Home, the candidates marched towards Vidhan Sabha from Laxman Mela Maidan on Tuesday, but cops stopped them on their way using barricades.

After having a conversation with the ADM, the students made pretext of returning to their homes and planned to surround the Police Recruitment Board office in the evening.

The protesters were led by Beer Bahadur Singh who claimed that the Samajwadi Party government had announced 35,000 vacancies of constables in UP Police in November-December 2015, but due to involvement of politics into the matter, a petition was filed in the high court against the recruitment process.

The HC, delivering an interim decision, barred the announcement of final result of the examination.

The aspirants met Principal Secretary, Home Madi Prasad Mishra alleging that the government's advocate weren’t putting the case in front of the judges effectively, which was the reason why expected results weren’t coming.

Mishra assured the candidates of trying to set up December 16 as the next date of hearing in the court, but it wasn’t satisfactory for the protesters. Subsequently, they returned to the protest ground and announced to hold a march towards Vidhan Sabha.

The one side of the road was already blocked due to the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) work and the other side was blocked by the protesters which caused a huge traffic jam on the adjoining roads.

Eventually, the police had to use batons to clear the area for smooth transition of vehicles.
