Lucknow: A missing employee of Lucknow Electric Supply Authority (LESA) was found dead under mysterious conditions in Hasanganj on Wednesday. His body was found floating in Gomti river, said police.The employee was missing since Sunday last.

The case:

  • Ghanshyam Kashyap (45) worked at LESA's sub power division office .
  • He lived with his family that included his wife Maushmi and two sons near Pulgawan police outpost at Saadatganj.
  • Kashyap along with his wife went to a bank in Naka to change old currency for new on Sunday last.
  • After the work was done, his wife went to her parental house for some work after Kashyap told her that he would come afterwards to pick her.
  • According to Maushmi, "He did not return home till late night and when I tried to contact him on his cell phone he did not answer the call despite several attempts and later his phone was switched off."
  • After looking for him all night, Maushmi,lodged a First Information Report FIR at Hasanganj police station. On the same day, Hasanganj police recovered a motorcycle abandoned at the Pucca pul and the Madehganj police station and it was later revealed that it belonged to Kashyap.

On Wednesday morning, a local resident Ankit Kumar Tiwari spotted the body of a man floating in the Gomti river and alerted the police and the information was passed on to the neighbouring police station for details of persons reported missing in the last four days.

Police identified the body and and contacted his family in Hasanganj locality identified it.

Hasanganj police inspector U V Singh said," The body was swollen and seemed three days old and carried no marks of injuries. It seemed the man jumped into the river as his bike was recovered from Pucca pul."

He further stated," The body was sent to morgue for autopsy and further investigations in the case are on.The family did not apprehend any foul play. If they demand probe the police will do so."

Singh added that Ghanshayam had suffered a brain stroke in January and was under treatment at the clinic of Dr Atul Rastogi. Victim's wife claimed that Ghanshayam used to carry the medicine strip with him when he was on duty or for some work. But he police has failed to recover any such medicine from his pocket.
