Lucknow: In yet another currency haul, this time in Lucknow, the Income Tax department and Uttar Pradesh's Special Task Force (STF), in a joint operation, have recovered Rs 17 lakh of new currency from the possession of one Anoop Singh in posh locality of Gomti Nagar here on Tuesday.

The currency recovered comprised of Rs 2,000 and Rs 100 notes, according to senior official of IT Investigation department. The raid in this connection was conducted after a tip-off, he added.

Apart from Anoop Singh, four persons, namely Manoj Kumar Mishra, Qasim Ali, Shams Tabrez and Himanshu Vikram Singh, have been arrested under the provision of Money Laundering Act.

As per the preliminary investigation, Anoop Singh has been running a syndicate in collusion with some white collar person, which could be ascertained after detailed probe. The involvement of a bank is also suspected in this matter as this syndicate was indulged in changing old currencies with the new on commission basis.
