Lucknow: The Election Commission of India has organised a voter awareness programme in front of the legislative assembly (Vidhan Sabha) here, on Friday, appealing the city electorate to give their votes in large number.

The city would witness a record of hoisting flag with ECI logo for 36 hours. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Nidhi Srivastava and DIOS Umesh Tripathi along with other dignitaries. Students from different schools and civil defence officers are also present in the programme.

The ADM Nidhi Srivastava said that the initiative has been taken to aware the voters of their right and responsibility. "To vote is not only their right but a responsibility which they should fulfill. We are trying to appeal the state electorate to exercise their power of voting through different cultural programmes," the ADM stated.

DIOS Umesh Tripathi said that the authorities decided to invite school children to attend the event as they are the future opinion makers and they should know from the very beginning what their rights and duties are. "We want this programme to have a positive impact on the students so that they would know the power of exercising their rights. We will also urge these students to ask their parents for giving their vote on the election day," stated Tripathi.

Main highlights of the event:

  • The event has been organised with an expectation of making a record of hoisting ECI flag for 36 hours in-front of the Vidhan Sabha.
  • If it happens, the event will be recorded in the LIMCA book of world records which has an earlier record of 24 hours made by Nikunj Tomar in Maharashtra by hoisting the Indian national flag.
