Confusion leads to two celebrations of Eid

Lucknow: The differences between the Shia and Sunni sect of the Muslim community can be determined with the fact that Shiites are celebrating the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday while the other sect will celebrate it on Thursday.

The Shiite committee on Tuesday night announced that Eid will be celebrated across India on July 7, Thursday, as the moon was not sighted but Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, a shia cleric in the state capital, surprises everyone when he called his sect for offering the prayers of Eid on Wednesday afternoon.

“We follow the rules of our clerics in Iran and we are celebrating Eid today. I do not want to comment on the Sunnis who would celebrate it tomorrow,” Maulama Kalbe Jawwad told newztrack.com in a telephonic conversation.

The Sunni sect will be celebrating the festival of brotherhood on Thursday.

“Despite the announcement of Shia community to celebrate Eid on Thursday and we do not know the reason behind it that why they called to offer Namaz at the eleventh hour. Well, I wish them a Happy Eid and we will celebrate ittomorrow,” said Sunni cleric Rashid Firangi Mahli.
