The Department of Urology, King George's Medical University, Lucknow conducted a meeting (CME) on the newer advances in the management of patients with advanced renal tumors on April 30, 2022. Renal tumors are sometimes noticed when the disease has already spread to other organs (most commonly the lungs). The prognosis (outcome) of such patients is poor. For most other cancers, when the disease has spread outside the confines of that organ (called metastatic disease), chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment.

However, renal tumors do not respond to traditional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Recently, there have been new developments in the treatment of metastatic renal tumors. However, the guidelines regarding the management of these tumors is still evolving, especially for Indian patients. Recently, with better understanding of tumor biology, a number of new drugs have been launched in this field. This seminar discussed the various options in the management of advanced renal tumors that is best suited for our patients.

Eminent uro-oncologists attended this meeting including Dr Sudhir Rawal, Director of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, New Delhi, Dr Uday Pratap Singh (Urology, SGPGIMS, Lucknow), Dr Alok Gupta Director (Medical & Hemato-Oncology), Medanta, Lucknow, Dr Sanjoy Sureka (SGPGIMS, Lucknow), Dr Alok Srivastava (RMLIMS, Lucknow), Dr Ishwar Ram Dhayal (RMLIMS, Lucknow), amongst others. Apart from that faculties (experts) from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Ram Manohar Institute of Medical Sciences and Command Hospital attended the meeting. The experts shared their experiences and discussed the best options for management.
