Lucknow: As a mark of protest against the killing of people on the name of Islam, hundreds of people tied black ribbons on the arms during the Eid celebrations at the Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, popularly known as Nadwa College, in Lucknow.

According to the reports reaching to the state headquarters here, the practice has been followed at several other places across Uttar Pradesh.

People wearing black ribbons said that if they will not protest today against such atrocities, they might be the next victim of such mob brutally lynched Kashmiri police officer Muhammad Ayub Pandit to death outside Srinagar's biggest mosque in Nowhatta region.

Ayub, Deputy Superintendent of Police, was deployed in the region to provide protection to the devotees offering prayers.

Director General of Police SP Vaid had informed that 12 accused have been identified in the case, of whom five have already been nabbed and the rest will be arrested soon.

Apart from the Uttar Pradesh capital, people from several other districts including Muzaffarnagar and Agra also observed Eid wearing black ribbons.
