Kanpur: At least twelve labourers were declared dead after a 6-storey under construction building collapsed in Jajmau, a suburb of Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday. According to the witnesses, more than 50 labourers were feared trapped under the debris.

Kanpur DM Kaushal Raj stated, "30 to 40 people still trapped, Army and NDRF have been called." The DM further said that a probe will also be launched into the accident. "Team of experts will be set for investigation of the building collapsed in Kanpur's Jajmau," stated Raj.

The building was being constructed near a mosque in the suburb and is said to be owned by a Samajwadi Party leader Mehtab Alam.

The rescue operations are underway by Army, Police and Fire Brigade and injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Two NDRF teams have reached the spot.
