Five govt hospital employees found guilty in Kanpur incident

Kanpur: In the wake of investigation following the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), five staffers of Kanpur’s Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital (aka Hallet hospital) have been found guilty in the incident where a child died after being neglected by the government-run health centre.

The district administration has sent the investigation report to the Uttar Pradesh government. Moreover, a copy of the report was also sent to the PMO.

Action to be taken:

• The investigation team has asked the government to take stern action against the hospital’s public relation officer (PRO) Pallavi Shukla.
• Emergency section’s ward boy Santosh Kumar and guard Sandeep Kumar are likely to be suspended.
• Worker Shiv Sahay Tiwari will be warned against laxity.
• Emergency’s Dr Mayank Singh will also be chastised.

The incident:

12-year-old Ansh, who was suffering from high fever, was denied admission to the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital (LLRH) in UP’s Kanpur city on Monday. The emergency section of the hospital had refused to admit the minor boy referring him to a nearby child specialist hospital. According to Kumar, he had to wait in the Hallet Hospital for more than half an hour before its staff denied admission to Ansh.

Moreover, his father Sunil Kumar was not even provided a stretcher for taking the child to the hospital which was over 250 meters from LLRH. Subsequently, Kumar raced his son to the referred health centre carrying him on shoulders. Unfortunately, he was late by the time he could reach there as the doctors of the hospital declared Ansh brought dead.
