New UP chief minister has his task cut out in eastern region

Gorakhpur: New Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has his tasks cut out for this region. He had proposed or backed as many as ten major projects as a representative of the area in the Lok Sabha. He has to undertake these schemes in right earnest if he has to live up to expectations of the people of the area he hails from.

He had an excuse earlier that the state is ruled by another party and, therefore, he cannot do much in this regard. With his appointment as the political head of the state he has no cover left now.

Encephalitis, a brain disease, has affected a large part of the district. Many people have died for lack of proper treatment. Yogi has to take effective measures to control the disease or to eliminate it, if possible.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last year launched two projects but none of these has made any headway. Revival of the closed fertilizer factory was one of them. It has been lying closed for more than 25 years.

The other proposal was to set up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences-like hospital. Yogi has to take necessary measures for speedy execution of these schemes.

The region has immense tourism potential. What is required to be done is to develop some of the tourist spots and provide proper links to them.

The Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority had proposed two parks-- food park and textile park. These proposals had also got Yogi's nod. There will be pressure on him to get them going too.

A large auditorium, a zoological park and cleaning of the Ganga should also draw his attention as these are his other pet projects.
