Lucknow: More than 46 per cent members of Uttar Pradesh assembly are facing one criminal case or the other. A scrutiny of affidavits filed by these members to the Election Commission makes this revelation as well as some other.

The directorate of prosecution which has been set up to expedite criminal cases has taken note of it and Director General Surya Kumar has already asked officials to move fast to get the cases decided, an official of the directorate told newstrack.com.

The state assembly has 403 members in total out of which 186 are facing criminal cases. As many as 98 are involved in heinous crime. The ruling Samajwadi Party has the maximum number of members (111) who have criminal cases pending against them. It has been followed by Bahujan Samaj Party which has 26 such members.

In comparison, the BJP and Congress appear much better. The BJP has only 25 members in the list. The Congress has only 13 such members.
