Aligarh: The residents of Indira Gandhi Hall of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have been on a protest dharna on the premises of their hall since October 16,2016 due to the demeaning behaviour of their provost, Farrukh Arjmand, a professor in Department Of Chemistry. The provost has been accused of using derogatory statements which include character assassination and moral policing.

The students placed their allegations in front of the provost in presence of the Students Union and she accepted them which has been recorded on an audio clipping. The girls demand her resignation from the post and have been sitting on a dharna. The administration has tried to mediate and negotiate with the students but they refuse to compensate owing to the serious allegations hurled.

Approximately 700 girls reside in the Hall which includes the main hall as well as the annex. Out of these 525 have signed a written letter to all the authorities demanding her removal. Also the allegations have been written. The ongoing strike coincided with the Sir Syed Day celebrations and the girls refused to attend the prestigious Dinner yet the authorities remained adamant and refused to agree to the demand.
