Allahabad: In a jolt to Uttar Pradesh government, the Allahabad High Court on Friday restrained the state government from declaring results of about 34,000 police constables recruitment.

A division bench comprised of justices Tarun Agarwala and VK Mishra passed the above order while hearing a petition filed by Ranvijay Singh and Vivekanand Yadav.

In the petition, the changes in rules made on December 12, 2015 have been challenged. As per new rules, no written examination will be conducted and merit list will be prepared on the basis of candidate's marks of class 10 and 12 and later, they have to qualify in physical test.

Counsel for petitioner, advocate Seemant Singh's contention was that there were defects in Hindi version of the new rules which were rectified after the posts were advertised. Hence, once recruitment process has started state government cannot change rules in between.

He further contended that Hindi is the official language of the state. Hence, what was advertised in Hindi language will be the rule governing the recruitment procedure.

On earlier date, affidavits were exchanged between the parties and now the court has fixed July 22 for final hearing.

It is to recall that recruitment for 28,916 posts of male and 5800 post of female was advertised on December 2, 2015 and later, a corrigendum was issued on February 2, 2016 by authorities to correct the mistakes made in Hindi advertisement.
