Allahabad HC orders UP govt to appoint Judicial Officers

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to appoint judicial officers as additional commissioner and assistant collector, within six months to adjudicate revenue cases in the state.

The bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Varma passed this order while hearing a Public Interest Litigarion (PIL) filed by one Yashpal Singh, of Bijnore district.

The petition:

  • The petitioner was represented by advocate Pankaj Kumar Ojha.
  • The matter came to High court after District Judge of Bijnor filed a report that presiding officers of revenue court in Bijnor gives priority to executive work due to which judicial work suffers.

Earlier, a proposal was submitted to the State Government by the Board of Revenue for the creation of posts of Tehsildar (Judicial), Sub Divisional Officer (Judicial), Additional District Magistrate (Judicial) and Additional Commissioner (Judicial) for speedy disposal of revenue cases by an officer having sufficient knowledge of law.
