Allahabad High Court sets aside election of SP member

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, on Tuesday, set aside the election of the ruling Samajwadi Party member Ram Singh from Patti assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh.

A single-judge bench of justice A N Mittal passed this order on the petition of BJP candidate Moti Singh who was defeated by Ram Singh by a narrow margin of 154 votes.

  • The petitioner had contended that as many as 955 votes were not counted at all in the election which had taken place in 2012.
  • The Court has held the then Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and returning officer Sharda Prasad guilty .
  • The Court has also asked for the action against the then District Magistrate of Pratapgarh and other officials.
