Noida: The residents of Bisada village have refused to celebrate Dussehra and Diwali festivals unless the villagers, who have been arrested in connection to the Akhlaq lynching, are released by the police.

A senior resident of the village said, “Nobody in the village is happy. We have decided not to celebrate any festival until our children are released from the police custody.”

He also said that the villagers would, however, light Diyas on the day of Diwali. “We would light the diyas and would offer prayers for the safety of our children and their early release,” he stated.

It may be mentioned that this village has not celebrated any festival since last one year after the Akhlaq lynching case happened. The village is in grief as more than 15 people were arrested by the police regarding the incident out of which an accused, Ravin, has recently died in the custody. The death has also created panic in the area.

The villagers have also demanded the arrest of Akhlaq’s brother Jaan Mohammad.

The situation that had worsened in the village after the death of the accused, has been taken under control after the interference of the administration, stated the police officials. The police force that was deployed in the village has also been asked, by the Senior Superintendent of Police, to return back.
