Jawaharbagh violence: 21 killed, UP DGP reaches spot

Mathura/Lucknow: As many as 21 people including two police officers have been killed in the Jawaharbagh violence which took place following removal of encroachment on Thursday under city kotwali area.

Principal Secretary, Home Debashish Panda and Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Javeed Ahmad, have reached the spot on instructions of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to take stock of the situation , sources said.

Around 400 people have been taken into custody and the situation is under control but tensed, they added.

Pradeep Bhatnagar, Agra Divisional Commissioner is probing the case.

What DGP says:

  • Protesterts were trained with the intention to kill.
  • Rambraksh Yadav, a resident of Ghazipur is the mastermind behind this, the police is looking for him.

What is the matter?

  • Operation Jawaharbagh began to vacate sprawling acres of land from the activists of Baba Jai Gurudev.
  • Activists had reportedly occupied the land on the pretext of ‘dharna’ for over two years.
  • Activists retaliated to police action with gunshots resulting into violent clash.

Meanwhile, the residents of Mathura and kins of slain police officer Mukul Dwivedi are protesting against the incident and are demanding that Chief Minister should come to the spot.

Who is Ram Briksh Yadav?

  • Ram Briksh Yadav is a disciple of Baba Jai Guru Dev.
  • Yadav came to light when he claimed for the property of Baba Jai Guru Dev after his death.
  • He reached Mathura on March 15, 2014 along with 200 people.
  • He sought the permission from district administration to stay there for two days.
  • Yadav, later occupied the 270 acres of land at Jawaharbagh locality.
  • Around 10 criminal cases are registered against Yadav since March 2014 in Mathua.
  • It is also being reported that around 5,000 men worked for him.
