Earthquake jolts Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, eighth in 11 days

New Delhi: The National Capital Region and several parts of northern India experienced mild tremors on Wednesday following an earthquake on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.

India Meteorological Department said that the earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale struck at a depth of 190 km in the Hindu Kush region.

The tremors, lasting a few seconds, were also felt in NCR and the adjoining region, forcing people to run out of their homes and offices. Delhi Metro immediately halted operations - briefly.

No damage, however, was reported. Officials said there were no immediate reports of loss to life or property as tremors lasted a few seconds only.

Tremors were felt in most parts of Punjab and Haryana. People in Chandigarh also experienced the earthquake which lasted a few seconds.
