BJP sets up seven-member team to probe into Etah Hooch tragedy

Etah: Keshav Prasad Maurya, Bhartiya Janata Party president in Uttar Pradesh, has set up seven-member fact finding committee to probe into the Hooch tragedy in this district. The committee will reach Etah, on Monday, and will submit the report to the party state president.

At least 26 people have been killed after consuming spurious liquor in the district.

The probing committee members :

  • The probe will be conducted under the leadership of BJP leader BL Verma.
  • Ram Shankar Katheria, former Union Minister and BJP Member of Parliament from Agra.
  • Rajvir Singh, BJP MP from Etah and Mukesh Rajput, BJP MP from Farrukhabad.
  • Pankaj Singh, BJP general secretary and Devendra Singh Bhole, BJP MP from Kanpur.
  • Party MP from Etawah, Ashok Dohre and Jagan Prasad Garg, the party legislator from Agra.

About the tragedy:

  • As many as 26 people have been killed in Aliganj area of Etah after drinking spurious liquor.
  • There are also reports of four people dying in Farrukhabad after drinking the same liquor supplied from Etah.
  • Farrukhabad is situated on the border of Etah and apart from the city the liquor was also being supplied to the nearby areas of Mainpuri, Kasganj and Badayun.
  • The death toll has risen 30 which includes death in all these areas, whereas more than 15 people are admitted to hospitals of Etawah, Agra, Farrukhabad, Etah, Kanpur and Delhi for their treatment.
  • Three more people died in Farsauli village of Aliganj area in wee hours during the treatment.
