Agra: Attacking Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Agra Mayor Indrajeet Arya on Monday said that he will give away Rs 1 lakh as prize money to the former if he managed take a hovercraft over Yamuna river to the Taj.

He dubbed all the announcements of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping as ‘poll-gimmics’ and said announcements are just to impress voters ahead of 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections.

“Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government has not done anything for the city while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav gifted Agra-Lucknow expressway to the people of UP,” said Mayor Arya.

What Nitin Gadakari had said in a public rally?

  • I would come on special plane which would land on Yamuna water.
  • Water route between Delhi and Agra will begin soon.
  • The major focus of government is on the cheapest mode of transportation i.e. water transport.
  • There are several projects including Rs 375-crore northern bypass and Rs 1000 crore Agra-Bareilly highway with six lanes on which work will begin soon.
