New Delhi: Users of world's most popular instant messaging application, WhatsApp, now don't have to worry about their chat privacy. The company announced end-to-end encryption of the application on Tuesday to make it completely secure.

What is end-to-end encryption:

  • The encryption allows only sender and receiver to read their chats. Neither any telecom company nor government would be able to get access to users conversation. Messaging app 'Telegram' also uses this kind of encryption.
  • If any mobile company requests to trace the conversations it would not be allowed to.

  • The messages encrypted through this makes the privacy of the messages 256 bits strong which prevent hackers and cyber criminals to read the conversations. However, due to loopholes in the security encryption some grey-hat hackers sometimes succeed in hacking the applications.
  • End-to-end encryption will start working as soon as users will update their application from Google Play Store. iOS users can download the updated version from app store.

Statement of WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum:

Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of WhatsApp in his blog stated that whether private or group chats, both will have end-to-end encryption. He stated that the company is working on the app's security since two years and finally got success to generate this encryption. Now all the photos, videos and files and voice messages exchanged between users are totally secure.
