Talking about such an amusing phenomenon, it is quite normal in female babies to bleed after birth which is known as pseudomenstruation, similar to menstruation in young and adult women. In mothers womb babies are exposed to high levels of the female hormone, estrogen and at birth, when the baby comes out from the womb, these estrogen levels fall rapidly, causing pseudomenstruation.

Most mothers are unaware of this phenomenon and often freak out when they see a little blood in their babies' diapers. However, it's very common and happens in about a quarter of all female babies, usually in the first seven days of life.

The Second freak fact is about lactation in babies and unlike the first one it doesn't depend on the gender of the baby as it happens in both male or female babies. The drop in same hormone that causes psueudomenstruation also causes 'galactorrhea', a phenomenon in which newborns develop tiny breast buds which are capable of producing tiny amounts of milk from nipples. It is also very common among newborns, occurring in about 5 percent of all newborns, and can persist for up to two months.

Interestingly, as per old European folklore, milk from the breasts of newborns was considered 'witch's milk' and was thought to have magical powers. Weird isn't t?
