DCW chief Swati Mahiwal booked for mentioning raped teen’s name

New Delhi: For allegedly mentioning the name of a 14-year-old Dalit girl who died after being repeatedly raped and forced to consume acid, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Tuesday.

Swati, who was critical of Delhi police for avoiding action against the rape accused, was booked for naming the victim in DCW’s notice to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Burari police station.

Other highlights:

  • The FIR was registered on the SHO’s complaint.
  • The girl was allegedly abducted, raped several times and forced to drink acid.
  • She died on Sunday after fighting for her life for more than a month.
  • The victim’s parents are sweepers in a local hospital.
