Lucknow: The Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, who have been acquitted of all charges in the 2008 double murder case of their daughter Aarushi and house help Hemraj, could not be released from jail on Friday as the certified copy of the Allahabad High Court order acquitting them had not reached the prison authorities till late Friday afternoon.

Now, they will only be released from jail on Monday as the court remains closed on Saturday and Sunday.

The High Court had on Thursday acquitted the Talwars in the murder of their teenaged daughter Aarushi in 2008.

Prison officials said they had not received a copy of the High Court order and would initiate the release procedure after they get the copy. The copy of the verdict will first be sent to the special CBI court in Ghaziabad, which had convicted them in 2013 and whose order was set aside and overruled by the Allahabad High Court.

After this, the certified copy will reach Dasna prison and the procedure to release Nupur and Rajesh Talwar will begin.

Local lawyer Satyaketu Singh, who contested the case at the CBI court in Ghaziabad, said the release of the Talwars was not possible on Friday as to file for their release a certified copy of the judgment was needed.

Dhruv Gupta, a lawyer for the Talwars, said they were trying their best to get the couple out of the jail on Friday itself.

Authorities said if the relevant documents from the court and the subsequent paper work were not completed by Friday evening, the Talwars might have to stay put in prison till Monday.
