City of Brussels: Belgium police on Friday detained two men, who were allegedly planning an attack in the country, during house searches.

“Police have arrested one Nourredine and his brother Hamza for planning an attack in a city of Belgium,” said federal prosecutors while interacting with media persons.

The federal prosecution office in a statement said it appeared there were plans of an attack in Belgium. The statement was based on provisional results of the interrogation and probe.

The federal prosecution office made it clear that the duo did not have any connection with the attacks at Brussels airport and metro station on March 22 in which 32 persons were killed.

Other highlights:

  • Belgium police had carried out as many as seven raids across Mons and Liege regions.
  • No explosives or weapons were recovered during the raids.
  • It may be mentioned that Home to European Union (EU) institutions and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) headquarters City of Brussels has been kept on the highest security alert level.
