Gandhinagar: When the entire nation is gearing up to celebrate the 67th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, the PM has begun his day with the blessings of his mother Heera Baa here.

Similar to the previous year, PM Modi will spend most of his day in his home state Gujarat.

He will also inaugurate the Sardar Sarovar Dam, the second largest dam in the world, with worship and all of the Narmada river. This dam was the idea coined by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel back in 1946. The work of the project, however, started in 1970.

The dam and the electricity generated through it will benefit four states – Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

After inaugurating the dam, PM Modi will personally check the construction of the humongous idol of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which will be called 'Statue of Unity'. This statue, which will be 182 meter tall, will be the biggest idol in the world. Currently, Statue of Liberty holds the record.

Moving ahead in the day, PM Modi will address a public rally in Dabhoi city of Vadodara. The rally will also hold political significance as Gujarat is scheduled to go for polls in 2017.

Narendra Modi will be accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and several other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

It is worth mentioning that Uttar Pradesh BJP has also made special arrangements to celebrate the birthday of Indian Prime Minister. A 110-feet tall and 35 feet wide cutout of the PM has been erected outside the UP Vidhan Sabha here. Apart from this, the BJP leaders have also planned to distribute about 1,500 kgs of sweets on the 67th birth anniversary of the PM.
