New Delhi: Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, who was rescued six days after being buried under snow in Siachen, died on Thursday afternoon. He was admitted to Army's Research and Referral Hospital in serious condition but he succumbed to multiple organ failure.

PM Narendra Modi condoled on his death by tweeting- "He leaves us sad & devastated. RIP Lance Naik Hanumanthappa. The soldier in you remains immortal. Proud that martyrs like you served India."

Hanumanthappa was found buried alive under 35 feet in sub-zero conditions on Monday night. He was flown to Delhi on Tuesday in an Air Force aircraft.

  • Hanumanthappa was in deep coma and he was also suffering with the problem of low blood pressure.
  • Doctors said that they found an evidence of pneumonia in both his lungs of the solider.
  • Senior nephrologist from R&R hospital and a panel of experts from the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) were treating him but they could not save him despite their best efforts.
  • A total of ten soldier including Hanumanthappa lost their lives in the avalanche in high-altitude area of Siachen.
