Jeddah: Two security officers were injured while tackling the suicide bomber near the United States consulate in Jeddah city in Saudi Arabia, on Monday. The suspected suicide bomber was killed after detonating the explosive device. The ministry officials confirmed that no one else was hurt.

According to the officials,“as the guards approached the man inside the hospital parking, he blew himself up with a suicide belt."

The attack at the consulate came in the early hours of the US Independence Day, shortly before the dawn prayers of Ramzan.

The US State Department said it was aware of Monday's blast and stated that it can confirm that all personnel under chief of mission authority are accounted for at this time.

“The US embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a warning after the attack, urging Americans to remain aware of their surroundings, and take extra precautions while travelling throughout the country,” the state department officials said.

The Militants had also attacked the Jeddah consulate earlier in 2004, killing nine people.
