Ministry of Health and Family Welfare approves the launch of PCV

The ministry of Health and Family welfare on Tuesday approved the launch of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine( PCV )under Universal Immunisation Programme.

Shimla: The ministry of Health and Family welfare on Tuesday approved the launch of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine( PCV ) under Universal Immunisation Programme.

The vaccine will be launched in five states of Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in next year.

According to the Union Health Minister, J P Nadda,"We have achieved a new milestone by expanding the coverage of full immunisation in Himachal Pradesh aimed at reducing child mortality".

What else did he say?

  • The vaccine would give a unique opportunity to the state to demonstrate the combine effect of diarrhoea vaccine (Rotavirus) and pneumonia (PCV) on the overall child mortality and morbidity in the state.
  • Himachal Pradesh will be hugely benefited with this new PCV.

It may be mentioned that, earlier, in 2016, the ministry of Health and Family Welfare introduced Rotavirus Vaccine to fight against Diarrhoea. It was launched in four states of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Himanchal Pradesh, Odisha.
