Washington: Exposing Pakistan in the most aggressive manner ever for shielding and promoting terrorism in India, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday said that when our country is fighting poverty, Pakistan is fighting us.

Addressing the 72nd United Nations General Assembly session in New York, she said, "When India is fighting against poverty, our neighbouring country is fighting against us."

"All programmes being run by Indian government like Digital India, Start Up India, Stand Up India, etc., are to empower the poor people. India displayed courage and leadership to take tough decisions which have launched interlinked process of sustainable development," she added.

She went on ridiculing Pakistan's education system and their tendency to sponsor terrorism in India, saying, "We set up IITs, IIMs and AIIMS banaye, but your (Pakistan's) legacy is Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Haqqani network, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, terrorist hideouts and terrororist training camps."

"We produced scholars, doctors, engineers. What have you produced? You have produced terrorists. And everyone knows that doctors save people from death, but terrorists send them to death," she added.

"Your so-called jihadi network is not only killing Indians, but is assassinating the people of our other neighbours like Bangladesh and Afghanistan," she claimed.

Sushma Swaraj also lambasted the Interim Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for blaming India of spreading state-sponsored terrorism and exploiting human rights in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, "When he was saying so, the world was like 'look who is talking'."

"The country which itself has crossed the limits of brutality by sponsoring the terrorists to kill the innocent people, is trying to teach us the lesson of humanity," she asserted lashing out at Pakistan.

Sushma also ridiculed Pakistan PM for recalling old resolutions that have been ignored over the time, saying, "His (Pak PM) memory has conveniently failed him where it matters. He forgot under Shimla agreement and Lahore Declaration, India and Pakistan resolved that they would settle all outstanding issues bilaterally."

"Pakistan's politicians remember everything, just to manipulate memory into convenience. They are masters at forgetting facts that destroy their version," she added.

Sushma also pointed out that Pakistan claims that their country's founder and first Prime Minister Mohammad Ali Jinnah had bequeathed a foreign policy based on peace and friendship, but actually they had lost this vision.

"I would like to remind him (Pak PM) that while it remains open to question whether Jinnah Sahab actually advocated such principles what is beyond doubt is that present Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, from the moment he took his oath of office, offered the hand of peace and friendship to the neighbouring country," she said.

"I would like to request this august assembly to stop seeing this evil with self-defeating and indeed meaningless nuance. Evil is evil. Let us accept that terrorism is an existentialist danger to humankind. There is absolutely no justification for this barbaric violence," she said.

Within a few minutes Sushma Swaraj completed her address at the UNGA, PM Modi immediately took to Twitter describing it as an 'incredible speech'.
