Anti-incumbency and defection may damage Congress in Uttarakhand

New Delhi: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has expressed concern over the incursion of Chine troops in this hill state through Chamoli district.

Confirming the reports of Indo Tibet Border Police (ITBP) sent to the Ministry of Home affairs (MHA) on July 19 last, he said though there were no activities of the troops but the Central government will have to take serious cognizance of this. He said ,however, they have not touched an important canal in the region.

The Chinese have intruded into Uttarakhand ,which shares 350-km border with the state, several times in the past.

The incursion lasted for about 40 minutes and the troops of both the nations pulled back.

The area where the incursion took place is a grazing ground of about 80 square km at Barahoti, in Chamoli District claimed by both India and China, say officials.

In the past, Chinese troops have been known to cross over and write 'China' on rocks in the Chamoli district.

This area has also seen aerial transgressions and infiltration by foot patrols in 2013 and 2014.

Meanwhile, Kiran Rijiju , the Minister of State for Home, said the Center had taken the situation seriously. “ we will act after the incursion is confirmed and that can be ascertained only after the report in this matter,’’ he said.
