Washington: Roger Ailes, the long-time Fox News chairman who built it into a renowned and politically powerful cable network, has been forced out of the organisation in the wake of sexual harassment allegations by many of his subordinates including star anchor Megyn Kelly and former host Gretchen Carlson.

After his resignation, Ailes has been replaced by head of the parent company ‘21st Century Fox’ Rupert Murdoch.

“Resignation of Ailes was immediately effective and Mr Murdoch would take over the duties of chairman as well as active chief executive of Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel,” said a company’s statement.

Other highlights:

  • Ailes was named in a lawsuit by Carlson, who claimed she was sacked from the company after rejecting his sexual advances.
  • The statement by the company did not mention about the lawsuit or its review of the allegations.
