In the new era, the film Adipurush, which came on the screens with new visual effects and big actors, could not do any wonders. But 107 years ago, when the story of Lord Ram came on the film screen, there was a queue of spectators in the theatre but in that Ramayana there was neither voice nor any big actress.

The interesting thing is that only one person was chosen to play the role of Ram and Siya. He was the Ram of the film and also the same Sita. Despite this, there was a complete temple like atmosphere in the theatres. Visitors used to take off their shoes and slippers before going inside.

This Ramayana was created by Dadasaheb Phalke in the name of Lanka Dahan. The special thing about this film was that Dadasaheb Phalke did not get a heroine for the film. In the year 1913, Dadasaheb made the film Harishchandra.

In this film also, a person named Anna Salunke played the role of heroine. His thin hands and slim figure were perfect for playing the role of a tall woman. Therefore, when Dadasaheb started making Lanka Dahan in 1917, Anna Salunke was given the role of Sita. The challenge was to play a male character. But Anna Salunke worked so much on his expressions and body language that he fit into the character of Ram.

By playing both Ram and Sita, Anna Salunkhe became the first artist to play a double role in Hindi cinema. The biggest thing was that people also accepted him in both the roles. A large number of people reached the theater to watch Ram Sita's Ramayana. The state of devotion was such that people used to go inside the cinema hall only after taking off their slippers but there was no sound in the film. Even after that, the message of devotion towards God reached the people clearly.
