New Delhi: Kawasaki and Yamaha have decided to build hydrogen engines for two-wheelers together amid the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) around the world. The new hydrogen is seen as an alternative to the electric powertrain, which supports zero-emission motorcycles. Therefore, this partnership is also being seen as an expansion of hydrogen engines. Let us know this in detail.

Five companies to join the agreement

In addition to Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Yamaha Motor Company, Subaru Corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Mazda Motor Corporation have also signed the agreement to achieve net-zero emission levels. Under this, Kawasaki Heavy Industries has been developing hydrogen as an energy source to power the entire supply chain since 2010. Yamaha, on the other hand, plans to develop hydrogen-powered engines for future usage in its two-wheeler vehicles.

Target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050

The agreement aims to achieve total net zero emissions by 2050. For this, the company is also developing hydrogen engine technology for possible use in its two-wheelers. In addition, Suzuki and Honda are also expected to join the agreement and find solutions to achieve alternative fuel and net-zero emission levels.

Kawasaki's first hydrogen bike may be Z400RS

Developing its first hybrid-enginemotorcycle, Kawasaki plans to launch a retro-themed motorcycle called Z400RS. The two-wheeler manufacturer says the design of the new Z400RS, Z650RS, and Z900RS will be used for this bike. Another reason to make this modern classic bike is its popularity among customers and more demand. Also recently the company has launched the sports bike Ninja 1000SX in India.

Kawasaki has the world's first liquid hydrogen carrier

Kawasaki has long been looking at hydrogen as an alternative fuel. The company has technology that uses hydrogen made from Australian coal in convection engines. In addition, Kawasaki Heavy Industries also has the world's first liquid hydrogen carrier called 'The Suizo Frontier'. Apart from motorcycles, Kawasaki is also trying to build heavy-duty vehicles, hydrogen-powered engines, and hydrogen-powered turbine generators.
