The Indian PC market experienced remarkable growth in the third quarter of 2023, achieving its highest sales figures ever. According to a recent report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), the market, which encompasses desktops, notebooks, and workstations, saw an impressive 14% increase in unit sales, surpassing 4.5 million units during Q3 2023. This growth is notable, particularly in comparison to the same period last year.

Breaking down the numbers, the notebook segment demonstrated a robust year-over-year growth of 13.1%, while desktop sales experienced an even more substantial increase of 19.3%. However, the commercial segment exhibited relatively stagnant growth. The standout performer was the consumer segment, posting an impressive 26.3% increase compared to Q3 2022.

One of the primary drivers behind this surge in the Indian PC market during Q3 2023 was the Gujarat education project, contributing to an outstanding 117.5% growth in the education sector. Additionally, the eTailer segment, which had witnessed declines in the preceding four quarters, rebounded with a noteworthy 26.4% year-over-year growth, fueled by festive sales.

HP Inc. emerged as the market leader with a commanding 29.4% market share, dominating both the commercial and consumer segments. The majority of HP Inc.'s growth was attributed to increased demand from the education and government sectors. Lenovo secured the second position with a 17% market share. However, Lenovo experienced an 8.8% decline in shipments, showcasing a challenging quarter for the company.

In terms of market dynamics, HP Inc. retained its leadership position in both the commercial and consumer segments. The education and government sectors played a pivotal role in HP Inc.'s success, driving substantial growth. Meanwhile, Lenovo, despite securing the second spot, faced challenges with an 8.8% decrease in shipments.

As the Indian PC market continues to evolve, factors such as education initiatives and festive sales events wield significant influence over consumer behavior and market trends. The stellar performance during Q3 2023 underscores the resilience and adaptability of the market, with key players like HP Inc. strategically leveraging opportunities in the education and government sectors. As the industry navigates shifting dynamics, ongoing monitoring and adaptation will be crucial for sustained success in this dynamic market.
