New Delhi: We have often heard that trains are tested NCAP and based on this, safety ratings are given. Many cars get a five-star rating and many have to operate at zero-rating. We check these ratings even when we take new trains, but many people don't know what it is. So, today, we are going to know about it in detail.

What is the NCAP test?

Cars with low vehicle safety standards pose a higher risk of road accidents, so all new cars have to meet the minimum safety standards.

For this, New Car Assistance Program (NCAP) has been set up to see if these cars can pass approved safety standard tests worldwide by the concerned authorities. This includes several test agencies like Global NCAP, Euro NCAP, and ASEAN NCAP.

How is the NCAP test performed?

When it comes to global NCAP, the car is hit at a speed of 64 kmph to test the crash of the front of the car and then the damage to the statue in the front seat is checked. The car scoring 5-star in the front offset test is later tested for side effects crash.

What tests do cars have to undergo?

NCAP test usually conducts front effect crash test and side effect crash test. In addition, the strength of seatbelts, electronic stability control, equipment provided for safety assist, emergency braking system are checked.

Various parameters contribute to these tests depending on how good or bad the car performs overall.

How many parts does this rating have?

NCAP rating is mainly divided into four parts. It first comes with an adult occupant protection test that focuses on the safety of older people. There are also child occupant protection tests, road assistance tests, and safety assistance tests.

What does a 5-star rating mean?

The number of stars shows how well the car performs in NCAP Tests. The more stars are found, the more they meet all the car safety parameters. However, it is also affected by what safety equipment the vehicle manufacturer is introducing in each market. Therefore, a large number of stars reflect the features available in terms of markets besides robust security arrangements.

Is it necessary to get all cars tested NCAP?

NCAP is an independent body, so car manufacturers are not obliged to send their models for safety ratings. However, brands are encouraged to send cars for tests of their own accord. The organization also allows car manufacturers to submit top variants for additional crash tests and safety ratings. In addition, the organization also buys and tests cars from itself.

Which cars in India have got a 5-star rating?

In India, the recent Steria MPV got five stars in the safety crash test. Earlier, the Indian variant of BMW iX got a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test this month. In addition, Mahindra's XUV700, 500, and 300 have bagged five stars in the Global NCAP. Tata's Punch, Altroz, and Nexon have also achieved this feat. All of them have got five stars on the Global NCAP Test.
