Lucknow: Automaker Bajaj Auto Limited has announced that it is going to set up a new electric vehicle (EV) construction plant in Pune for which it will invest Rs 300 crore. The company has claimed that the plant will have a capacity to produce five lakh electric vehicles per year. It will also fully start production for the domestic market and exports by June 2022.

800 personnel to get employment- Bajaj

Bajaj Auto said it will install state-of-the-art robots and automated manufacturing systems at its upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Pune, which will have everything from logistics and material handling, fabrication, and painting, assembly, and quality assurance to automated. In addition, the plant will be spread over 5 lakh square feet and will also employ about 800 personnel. This is the same site where chetak scooters are manufactured.

We will also invest in further construction

According to the company, Bajaj will also invest an additional Rs 250 crore for further construction. The first vehicle from this unit is expected to start by June 2022. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Limited said, "This investment in Pune caters to high-efficiency engineering capabilities of high-tech research and development, global supply range synergy and global distribution network cycle. "

Bajaj's only electric scooter

Chetak is currently available for sale which is the only Electric Scooter of Bajaj. Chetak is a high-speed electric scooter with a steel body. It also features a 3KWh battery and a 3.8kw electric motor, which gives 5.5bhp power. Once fully charged, it is capable of providing a range of 95 km in eco mode and 85 km in sport mode.

New electric scooter to be made in association with KTM

Bajaj Motors along with KTM Group may soon introduce a new electric scooter in the Indian market. An electric scooter of the company has been spotted during testing with Chetak on the outskirts of Pune. In addition, Husqvarna is part of the KTM Group, which is working closely with Bajaj in India. Bajaj is expected to launch a different model from Husqvarna.
