The momentum swung both ways throughout the chase but in the end, South Africa prevailed off the very last ball of the match and India missed out on a spot in the semi-final. The result also triggered celebrations in the West Indies camp as they went through as the fourth-placed team with India finishing fifth. Mithali Raj, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana scored half centuries and Harmanpreet Kaur made 48 as India put up a total of 274/7. An inspire Harmanpreet then led the way with the ball and in the field as India kept striking back whenever it looked like South Africa were getting comfortable but then former captain Mignon Du Preez scored an unbeaten half century to lead her side to victory.

Heartbreak for India

Deepti Sharma's no-ball has cost Team India a chance to reach the semifinals. Mignon du Preez gets a boundary off the final ball to win the game for SA by three wickets.

Du Preez completes the chase, India are knocked out

South Africa have won the match by 3 wickets. This will be a tough one to swallow for India. Du Preez, the former South Africa captain, ends with an unbeaten 52 off 63. She flicks the a full ball through mid-wicket and roars in delight. The Indian shoulders sink. Jhulan Goswami walks out to shake hands while Mithali Raj leads her team mates off the field. This may have been the last time we saw these two legendary players in a World Cup. What a knock Mithali played today and what a hand by Harmanpreet in the last few overs and then throughout the South African chase with the ball and in the field. But it was not enough, and India finish fifth in the league stage.
