Women’s Hockey team wins maiden Asian Champions Trophy

Singapore: Indian Hockey team thrashed China 2-1 in the finals of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Hockey tournament claiming its maiden title here on Saturday.

Deep Grace Ekka had hit the first goal in the 13^th minute of the game but China came back levelling the game with Zhong Megling hitting first goal for her team in the 44^th minute. It was Deepika Thakur who hit the winning goal for India in the 60^th minute helping India to lift the trophy.

It could be recalled here that India had lost to China in the round-robin stage on Friday but came back strong against the same team in the finals.

Hockey India has announced a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs for each player and chief coach Neil Hawgood.
