US Open: Sania Mirza wins, Paes, Boppana crash out in men’s doubles

New York: Indian star player Sania Mirza along with Croatian partner Ivan Dodig surpassed America’s Taylor Townsend and Donald Young in the second round of mixed doubles in US Open Tennis tournament on Saturday at Court P6. Other Indian tennis stars including Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna were ousted from the men’s doubles following the defeats in their respective matches.

Sania Mirza:

  • Sania-Dodig pair claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win against American duo Taylor and Donald.
  • The match lasted 62 minutes.

Leander Paes:

  • Paes and Andre Begemann lost a hard fought match by 6-2, 5-7, 4-6 to Stephane Robert of France and Israel’s Dudi Sela.
  • It was a long match which lasted one hour and 59 minutes.

Rohan Bopanna:

  • Indo-Danish duo Bopanna and Frederik Nielsen lost 6-2, 7-6 to America-New Zealand pair Brian Baker- Brian Baker.
  • They surrendered the match in 74 minutes.
