Twenty-year-old Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz scripted history at the Wimbledon when he outclassed Novak Djokovic in a gruelling five-setter 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 to lift his first grand slam title.

The match that lasted almost five hours witnessed some high-class grass court tennis with both players displaying their skills. The capacity crowd at the Wimbledon, which cheered every good smash, volley and ace, had their money worth.

Djokovic, who had been winning the Wimbledon for the past four years without break, was stunned by some mind-boggling display of tennis from the Spaniard who outclassed his rival in every department of the game.

No wonder Djokovic, a great player that he is, hugged Alcaraz when the latter crumpled back on the Centre Court turf, as if he was acknowledging another emerging Tennis great. It was no small feat for Alcaraz who was simply sublime.

Djokovic had an easy start and it again seemed as if he was going to walk away with Title once again when he won the first set 6-1. Alcaraz, however, had other ideas. He made a strong comeback in the second set and won it 7-6 in a tie-break.

Alcaraz simply crushed Djokovic in the third set 6-1 and then it dawned on the spectators that an upset might be in the offing. Djokovic, like all the greats, attained his form and won the fourth set 6.3.

Alcaraz kept his nerves and emerged the winner by snatching the final set 6.3.
