Ganguly wants Gambhir in Indian team for ICC Champions Trophy

New Delhi: Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday said Indian selectors should make use of Gautam Gambhir's spectacular form and keep him as a back-up opener for the Champions Trophy, beginning June 1.

"Gauti is in great touch and is scoring runs as well. It would not be a bad idea to pick him for the upcoming Champions Trophy, seeing KL Rahul's slim chances of getting fit before the contest," said Sourav Ganguly.

Rahul is suffering from shoulder injury owing to which he has been ruled out of the Indian Premiere League 2017. Rahul, himself, had said that his chances of playing in Champions Trophy are very low.

So far in the Indian Premier League, Gautam Gambhir is second leading run-scorer after David Warner. In KKR's 11 outings, he has scored 411 runs.

He also stressed on the brilliance of Mohd Shami and said latter will be an automatic choice in the side, if remained fit.

"It was the spell of Shami which shifted DDvsSRH game into Delhi's favour," said Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President.

It may be mentioned here that India's participation in the Champions Trophy is still in doubts.
