Colombo: Indian skipper Virat Kohli smashed his 29th One-Day International hundred in the fourth match against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa stadium here on Thursday.

He completed his ton off just 76 deliveries, with the help of 14 fours and a six. He reached to the 50-run mark off 38 balls.

Kohli ranks third in the list of highest century-hitters only after legendary Sachin Tendulkar (49) and Ricky Ponting (30). He has achieved the feat in his 194th ODI and surpassed Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya (28).

He had last scored a hundred against West Indies in the last match of the five-match ODI series which India won 3-1.

The Indian 'run-machine' already holds the record of most number of hundreds in chases. He had surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record for most hundreds in chases. While the Little Master took 232 innings to score 17 hundreds, he has taken just 102 innings to score 18 ODI tons while batting second.

Before today's match, Virat Kohli had played 193 ODIs in which he has completed 8,428 runs at a phenomenal average of 55.08. He also has 45 half-centuries and his career strike rate is 91.48.

Despite India losing the first wicket (Shikhar Dhawan) at just 6 runs on the board, Kohli started off his inning positively and started playing his favourite shots.

India is currently in a dominating position in the match at 187/1 in 25 overs, with Kohli looking at his very best at 102 off 78 balls and Rohit Sharma batting flawlessly at (77 off 66).
