New Delhi: Sanjay Bangar, the batting coach of Indian Cricket team, on Saturday said that middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane got out on first day of third Test against Sri Lanka here owing to a poor shot selection, which he must be regretting.

Rahane (1 off 5), who has only amassed 7 runs from the four innings he has batted on the current tour, was once again dismissed cheaply by Sri Lanka chinaman Lakshan Sandakan. He got stumped by Niroshan Dickwella on the opening day of the third Test, on a very similar delivery on which Murali Vijay got stumped after playing a brilliant of 155 runs.

"He (Rahane) would be disappointed in the manner he got out. He is someone who works very hard," said 45-year-old assistant coach during the press conference.

"The shot selecting would be hurting him, because he is a quality player and going forward his overseas record has been phenomenal.

"He is a quality player and has the ability to bounce back quickly," Sanjay Bangar added.

Talking about the opening combination India will play against South Africa in the upcoming tour in January, Bangar said, "The team management is clear that it will depend on the form of player, we are so spoilt for choices, whoever is making his opportunity is making it count.

"The current form and the way in which the player have the mindset will consider them for the final eleven," Sanjay Bangar said.
