Rio de Janeiro: Despite beating World No. 1 Carolina Marin in the first round of the final match by 21-19, Indian shuttler P V Sindhu failed to surpass the former as she faced 12-21 and 15-21 defeat in the second and third round settling her with a silver medal.

Sindhu’s brilliance was witnessed in the first round where she overpowered Carolina. Subsequently, Marin replied with some great strokes beating Sindhu in the second and third round and bagging gold for Spain.

It is first silver for India in Badminton.

“Sindhu will perform well in the coming days and thanks to the staff, coaches and the people of India for supporting my daughter in this journey,” said Sindhu’s father.

It may be mentioned that it is India’s fourth ever silver medal in Olympics.
