Guyana: Helped by career-best spell of spinner Sunil Narine and fine batting of all-rounder Kieron Pollard, West Indies began their new Cricket season with a four-wicket win against South Africa in the Tri-Nation One-Day International series at the Providence stadium on Friday night.

In a bowling friendly pitch, despite the spirited performance of Proteas batsman Rilee Rossouw, South Africa were dismissed for 188 in 46.5 overs unable to cope up with Narine’s 9.5-0-27-6.Chasing the target of 189 runs, WI got off to a slow start as Charles, Fletcher and Darren Bravo took plenty of balls for their short innings respectively.

It was Pollard’s prowess, who played a match-winning knock of 67 runs with 2 boundaries and 6 sixes and helped his team to surpass Proteas in the opening encounter of the Tri-Nation series.

Brief Scores:

South Africa- 188 in 46.5 Overs (Rilee Rossouw 61, AB de Villiers 31; Sunil Narine 6-27, Carlos Brathwaite 2-35)

West Indies- 191 for 6 in 48.1 Overs (Kieron Pollard 67, Darren Bravo 30; Aaron Phangiso 3-40, Imran Tahir 2-41)
