Mohali: Indian Cricket team has strengthened its position in the five-match ODI series by beating New Zealand by seven wickets in the second ODI at Punjab Cricket Association stadium here on Sunday. It was chase masters Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni’s heroic performances which helped India lead the series 2-1.

Chasing the total of 285 runs, Ajinkya Rahane (5) and Rohit Sharma (13) departed early. Virat Kohli was assisted by skipper Dhoni who promoted himself and came at no. 4. Both shared 151-run stand to chase down a respectable total set by Kiwis.

Dhoni smashed six fours and three sixes during his 91-ball 80-run inning. Later, Manish Pandey and Kohli shared 97-run partnership helping India to seal victory. Virat’s inning of 154 runs off 134-ball was studded with 16 fours and one six.

Earlier, NZ was all out at 285 runs with 10 balls remaining.

For India, Kedar Jadhav and Umesh Yadav were the leading wicket takers claiming three wickets each.
