Kanpur: Indian Cricket team has lost its first wicket before the start of the game as pacer Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Kanpur Test match against New Zealand as he was suffering from mosquito-borne viral infection, chikungunya.

Confirming Ishant's illness, Indian head coach Anil Kumble said that former will not be available for the first Test match and that no replacement has been sought yet.

Virat Kohli led Men in White will take on Black Caps in the first Test match beginning September 22 at the Green Park in Kanpur.

The rain may play a spoil sport.

Interestingly, it is after seven years that Indian team will play a Test at the Green Park.

Other Highlights:

  • Ishant has claimed 209 wickets in 72 Tests with an average of 36.71.
  • In India’s last Test series against West Indies, he had bagged eight wickets in four Tests with an average of 32.12.
